There is a 6.75-litre V12 under that long bonnet, but the number that matters is not horsepower — it is the silence. The Ghost is built around stillness. It is the quietest road car most people will ever sit in, and everything about the way it drives is arranged to keep the cabin calm while the world hurries past outside.
So the car is best understood from the rear compartment. Coach doors that open backwards, lambswool underfoot, a ride that seems to erase the road entirely — this is a car designed to be arrived in, not driven. From the back it is extraordinary. The cabin is so well isolated that conversation happens at a whisper at 100km/h, and the outside world simply recedes. There is no other car we list where the rear seat is the best seat, and once you have travelled in the back of a Ghost, ordinary cars feel loud and busy for days afterwards.
The coach doors are the signature, and they are not a gimmick. Because they are hinged at the back, you step out forwards, standing up into the open rather than clambering out sideways. That is precisely why the Ghost photographs so well at a church door or a venue entrance — the exit is graceful by design, and the camera loves it.
The V12 is effectively silent. There is no drama, no sound of effort; the car simply gathers speed, as if the scenery is being drawn past rather than driven through. The engineers call the sensibility waftability, and it is exactly right — the Ghost does not accelerate so much as change location smoothly and without apparent effort.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is from $2,499 for 24 hours, chauffeured or self-drive. For weddings it is usually booked chauffeured with a three-hour minimum, and multi-day rates are quoted on enquiry. Every quote is confirmed in writing before anything is paid.
