Nothing else we list sounds like it, because almost nothing else made today sounds like it.
That is the honest reason it books out first. This kind of engine is being legislated out of existence, and cars built around it will not be built again. It is a strict two-seater with one small boot under the bonnet. This is a car for a day out, not a weekend away — you take a passenger and a jacket, not four people and their luggage. What’s the Huracán Tecnica like to drive?
The noise is the point — it builds rather than punches, and the car only truly wakes in the top third of the rev range.
Below 4,000rpm the Tecnica is civilised, and that surprises people. It idles quietly, pulls cleanly, and behaves in traffic. Then the needle climbs and the character changes completely: the intake hardens, the exhaust opens, and the last 3,000rpm arrive with a sound no turbocharged car can make. Chasing that top third of the rev range is the entire experience, and it is addictive.
Rear-wheel drive makes it more mobile and more honest than the all-wheel-drive Huracáns. It talks to you through the steering and the seat, and it expects you to listen. On cold Melbourne mornings the rear tyres want warming before you use the throttle properly out of a junction — a few kilometres of gentle driving and they come good.
Visibility rearwards is poor, so you lean on the mirrors and the camera. The nose lift is essential and you will use it constantly — driveways, speed humps, the ramp into any car park. Learn where the front splitter is in the first ten minutes and you will save it for the rest of the day.
It draws attention in a way that is either the entire point or slightly exhausting, depending on the day and your mood. Phones come out at every set of lights. Some hirers love it; some find a quiet back road and enjoy the car away from the audience. Both are valid, and the Tecnica is good enough to justify either.
Where it comes alive is a good road early in the morning. The Black Spur from Healesville, or the Yarra Valley before nine on a Sunday, is where the Tecnica makes sense of itself — flowing corners, a clear road ahead, and that V10 filling the valley behind you. In city traffic it is a loud, wide, hard-riding way to sit still, so hire it for the road out of town rather than the commute.
The gearbox is a dual-clutch that snaps through changes faster than you can think about them, the brakes are strong and consistent, and the whole car feels lighter and keener than its numbers suggest. It is not the easiest supercar we list, but for a driver it is the most rewarding.

A refundable security bond is held for the duration of the hire and released after the vehicle is returned and checked. If nothing is wrong, you get it back in full.
