How does an airport pickup work?

You send the flight number, we track it, the driver adjusts to the actual landing time, and you are met inside the terminal rather than found in a car park.

It starts with the flight number. Once you send it, we track the flight, so the pickup is timed to when the plane actually lands rather than when it was scheduled to. If the flight is early, the driver is early; if it is delayed, the driver adjusts, and you are never charged for a delay outside your control.

You are met inside the terminal. The driver waits in arrivals with a name board, so there is no searching a pickup zone, no phone call to a driver circling the airport, and no standing on a kerb with your luggage. The driver handles the bags, walks you to the car, and the trip begins the moment you land.

For international arrivals there is 60 minutes of complimentary waiting built in, which covers the reality of immigration and baggage after a long-haul flight. The whole process is designed so that the only thing you have to do after clearing customs is look for your name.

It also removes the part of airport travel most people dislike. Which car suits an airport transfer?

The G63 for luggage and two or three passengers, the Ghost when the arrival is the point, the Urus for four with bags.

The G63 is the default, and for good reason. It seats up to five, swallows a genuine amount of luggage, and its commanding, upright cabin is a comfortable place to be after a long flight. For two or three passengers with normal luggage, it is close to perfect.

The Ghost is for the arrivals where the person is the reason the trip matters — a visiting chairman, a client you are collecting personally, a private occasion. It is the quietest, most composed car we list, and it sets a tone the moment the door opens. Boot space is more modest, so it suits lighter luggage.

The Urus bridges the two: four passengers with bags, in a car that still reads as an event. When the group is a little larger and you want more than a straightforward transfer, it is the one to ask for. Tell us the numbers and the luggage when you book and we will confirm the right car.

The honest limit to know is luggage. Airport runs are the one context where boot space decides the car, and two large hard cases plus carry-ons is more than a low saloon can take gracefully. If you are travelling heavy, or if there are golf clubs, prams or oversized bags in the mix, say so when you book — it is the single most useful thing you can tell us, and it is what stops the wrong car turning up at arrivals.

How long does it take from Tullamarine?

Around 25 to 35 minutes to the CBD off-peak, longer in peak — and the Tullamarine Freeway is the variable that matters.

Off-peak, Melbourne Airport to the CBD or Southbank is a comfortable 25 to 35 minutes. Docklands is similar. South Yarra and Toorak run to roughly 30 to 40 minutes, Brighton 40 to 50, and the Mornington Peninsula around an hour and a quarter depending on exactly where you are headed.

The honest variable is the Tullamarine Freeway in peak. In the morning inbound and the evening outbound, it can add twenty minutes or more, and public holidays and major events compound it. Our drivers know the alternatives and the timing, so a flight-tracked pickup already accounts for the traffic on the day rather than a best-case estimate.

What time should I book a departure pickup?

For domestic, allow the drive plus about two hours at the airport; for international, the drive plus about three.

For a departure, work backwards from the flight. For a domestic flight, allow the realistic drive time plus around two hours at the airport; for an international flight, the drive plus around three. From the CBD and inner suburbs that usually means a pickup roughly two-and-a-half to four hours before departure, depending on the flight and the time of day.
