Mercedes-AMG G63 Hire Melbourne
The most-booked car we have, and the easiest to live with.
Multi-day rates available. Ask when you enquire.
The G63 is the entry point to the range at $1,499, and it is the one most people actually need. Five seats, real luggage space, and a shape that reads as expensive to absolutely everybody — it does more of what people actually hire a car like this for than anything else we list. It is the sensible answer that happens to be enormous fun.
It is worth being plain about search, because it matters here: “G Wagon hire Melbourne” is what people type, and this is that car. It also covers more occasions than anything else on the page. Airport pickups, weddings, special occasions, client dinners, weekends away — the G63 does all of them without compromise, where every other car we list is built for one job.
The reason it works is that it is genuinely easy. It is the only car we list that a nervous driver can get into and simply drive — high seating, square edges you can see, and controls straight out of any modern Mercedes. There is no learning curve and no anxiety, which is exactly why it is the most-booked car we have.
None of that makes it dull. Under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that is far faster than the shape suggests, and the start-up bark is comically loud for something this square. It is a serious performance car wearing the body of a box, and that contradiction is a large part of the appeal.
Self-drive collection is from our South Melbourne showroom, with a fifteen-minute handover; chauffeured bookings come to you, and the G63 is a favourite for airport work and bridal parties. The rate is $1,499 for 24 hours, with multi-day rates on request.
What’s the Mercedes-AMG G63 like to drive?
It drives like a box, and that is exactly the appeal — upright, commanding, and far faster than it looks.
It drives like a box, and that is the whole point. You sit high and upright behind flat glass, with the corners of the car clearly in view and doors that shut with a heavy, engineered thunk like a bank vault. Everything about it feels solid and deliberate, and after five minutes you feel like you could park it anywhere.
Then you use the throttle, and the box disappears. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 hurls two-and-a-half tonnes down the road far faster than physics seems to allow, and the exhaust on start-up is comically, wonderfully loud for something shaped like a garden shed. It never stops being funny, and it never stops being quick.
The ride is firm over tram tracks and sharp edges — this is a genuine off-roader underneath the AMG addenda, with the suspension to match — so the inner-city surfaces make themselves known. It is not uncomfortable, just honest about what it is. On the freeway and the open road it settles into an imperious, long-legged cruise.
Height is the one thing to plan around. It is tall enough that some CBD car parks are simply out of the question, and that is worth knowing before you book rather than discovering at a boom gate. We will tell you which venues and car parks to avoid if you tell us your plans, and for most journeys it is a non-issue.
The rear seats are the quiet masterstroke. They are genuinely comfortable for adults — proper space, proper support, climate control back there — which is why the G63 works so well for weddings and for occasions where the people in the back matter as much as the driver. Nobody is being a good sport in the back of a G63; they are enjoying themselves.
As a thing to simply live with for a day, it is the most relaxed car we list. It does the school run, the dinner and the airport run without fuss, then makes every one of them feel like an event the moment you press the start button. That breadth, at the lowest rate on the page, is why it is booked more than anything else.
Who hires the G63?
Almost everyone — it is the car that covers the most occasions, and the one nervous first-timers and seasoned hirers both choose.
The biggest single use is airport work. For collections and drop-offs it is close to perfect — commanding, comfortable, and with room for a family and their luggage — which is why it and the Ghost are the two cars we send to Tullamarine most often.
Weddings are a close second, and specifically the bridal party. Where the bride takes something formal, the G63 carries the groomsmen or the wider party in comfort, handles unsealed venue driveways without a thought, and looks the part in every photograph. It is the most practical wedding car we list.
Then there are the special occasions and client dinners — anyone who wants a car that reads as expensive to everybody, without the responsibility or the nerves of a low-slung supercar. For a milestone where five people are going out together, nothing else fits the brief so neatly.
And it is the car we hand to first-timers with total confidence. If you have driven a family SUV, you can drive a G63 — the same seating, the same controls, none of the anxiety. It is the easiest way into a car that still feels like a genuine event.

Questions
G Wagon questions, answered.
The questions people ask about this car most.
The Mercedes-AMG G63 is from $1,499 for 24 hours, the most accessible rate we list, self-drive or chauffeured. Multi-day rates drop per day and are quoted on enquiry. Every quote is confirmed in writing — the rate, the deposit, the refundable security bond and the minimum age — before anything is paid.
Five adults with luggage. The rear seats are genuinely comfortable for adults rather than occasional, and the boot takes a family’s bags. Along with the Lamborghini Urus, it is one of the two cars we list that carries a full group and their luggage.
Yes. The G63 is one of our most-requested chauffeured cars, particularly for airport transfers and weddings — for those bookings the car and a suited driver come to you. It is also available self-drive, collected from our South Melbourne showroom, subject to a licence check and a minimum age we confirm with your quote.
Not all of them. The G63 is tall enough that some CBD car parks with low clearance are out of the question, and it is better to know before you book than at the boom gate. Tell us where you are headed and we will tell you which car parks and venues to avoid. For most journeys it is a non-issue.
Straight Answers
Before you ask.
The four questions nearly everyone has, answered straight.
“It’s more than I expected to spend.”
At $1,499 the G63 is the most accessible rate we list, and it replaces two cars — the statement car and the one that carries everyone else — with a single five-seat booking. The rate covers a full 24 hours with the car, the handover and the support line. Multi-day rates drop per day, and the quote you receive is the complete picture in writing.
“What if I damage it?”
A refundable security bond is held for the duration of the hire and released after the vehicle is returned and checked. If nothing is wrong, you get it back in full. If something goes wrong, the bond caps your exposure and we talk you through what happens next — the number, what it covers, and the process are all confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
“I’ve never driven anything like this.”
The G63 is the car we recommend for exactly that. You sit high, all four wheels drive, and the controls are straight out of any modern Mercedes — if you have driven a family SUV, you can drive this, and most first-time hirers are comfortable in minutes. The handover covers the height, the width and the drive modes.
“Is my date even available?”
Ask. The form takes two minutes, enquiring costs nothing, and one of our team will come back within the hour with a straight answer. The G63 is the most-booked car we have — wedding-season and airport-heavy weekends go first, so the sooner you ask the better — or check your date here.
